Welcome to my blog! My name is Lisa and I’m a twenty-something, nutrition-obsessed New England girl. I am currently working in clinical research while completing my masters in nutrition and dietetic internship. I am excited to finish school and start my career as a registered dietitian! This blog has become my place to document the recipes I make, the workouts I try, and the fun I am having along the way.
My interest in nutrition began in college, when the pounds started creeping on. I had played sports my whole life, and while I have a traditional Italian family (meaning we eat mass quantities of meat and carbs), I had never had a problem staying thin. Then came college, and although I tried eating healthy and working out, I would ultimately give in to fried cafeteria food and dinners out with friends. And while balance is key in life, I ended up indulging more than I ate well, leaving me feeling unhealthy and ready for a change.
Therefore, when I left college and moved out on my own (into the “real world”), I vowed to eat healthier and work out regularly. I was surprised to see how easy it was to cook my own healthy meals, as well as make my old favorites more “healthified”. I was able to lose weight and feel stronger through a combination of healthy eating and working out 4-6 times a week, which has now become my routine. I enjoy trying new recipes and workouts and am excited to see where this healthy journey will take me! Since I love reading both food and style blogs, I figured I would try to focus on chronicling my healthy recipes, sweaty workouts, and personal style/inspirations on this blog. Hence the name Sequins & Sushi – combining my love for good food with my view of life as one big, sparkly party!
I also love my family, traveling, spontaneous fun with friends, being crafty, kickboxing, trying new craft beers, summer concerts, shopping, and being near the water. Thanks for stopping by and please leave lots of comments, I would love to hear from you!
